The property, business and affairs of Gift of Hope are managed by its Board of Directors. The Board’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to, establishing and reviewing the Gift of Hope policies, maintaining quality organ procurement and providing for organizational management and planning.

The Board of Directors consists of 17 Directors, with vote; two ex-officio Directors, without vote; and up to an additional six Directors, without vote. Each Director serves a term of three years. Board members with vote comprise the following types of members: hospital administrator; voluntary health organization; public representatives; physician in neurosciences; physician practicing critical care or emergency medicine; physician with knowledge, experience or skill in the field of histocompatibility or an individual with a doctorate degree in a biological science with knowledge, experience or skill in the field of histocompatibility; physician or surgeon elected from nominations solicited from the Tissue Advisory Committee; individuals who are either themselves recipients of an organ transplant, a family member of a recipient of an organ transplant, or a family member of an organ donor; physician with knowledge, experience or skill in the field of transplant surgery; and physicians or surgeons active in the field of organ transplantation representing the six participating universities.
