Clinical

Donation Coordinator (Peoria)

  • Based at Gift of Hope’s Peoria, IL, satellite office
  • Full-time (Non-Exempt)

In addition to supporting Gift of Hope's mission and vision and adhering to its values, the Donation Coordinator is responsible for serving as an expert resource within hospitals on all aspects of organ and tissue donation and for collaborating with hospital administration to create and implement effective policies and procedures to improve organ and tissue donation. The Donation Coordinator  also provides families with accurate and appropriate information regarding donation and maintains an integral role in all donation efforts at assigned hospitals.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Developing and implementing strategic plans (long-term goals) with Gift of Hope’s regional team to identify hospitals’ strengths and weaknesses in order to help optimize their performance in donation cases.
  • Maintaining a hospital profile for assigned hospitals and documentation to accurately reflect progress in hospital development.
  • Proactively reviewing data after collecting, analyzing and updating information on performance outcomes in assigned region. 
  • Generating written analyses of key donation process outcomes. 
  • Participating in quality assurance audit activities related to donation. 
  • Reporting collective data to hospital administration and appropriate department managers.
  • Establishing effective working relationships with hospital administrators, physicians, nurses, and other allied healthcare professionals to promote donation as part of the hospital’s mission.
  • Seeking and developing opportunities for creative and effective solutions to promote donation.
  • Fostering professional relationships within the region to support all of Gift of Hope efforts.
  • Facilitating decision-making programs and committees in the hospital that have an influence on organ and tissue donation. 
  • Developing, providing and evaluating educational programs on all aspects of the donation process for hospital staff. 
  • Reviewing hospital charts and current records of potential donors.
  • Documenting findings and follow-up plans in hospital charts.
  • Participates in medical rounds with Neurology and Trauma services as needed. 
  • Coordinating Patient Care Conferences with appropriate hospital staff during critical points in the referral and/or consent process when applicable.
  • Facilitating the consent process and documenting donors’ medical/social histories in accordance with Gift of Hope policy.
  • Actively participating in after-action reviews for continuous quality improvement within the Hospital Development region.

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in an allied healthcare field, business administration or related field; or equivalent work experience is required.
