Donation Specialist (Peoria)
- Based at Gift of Hope’s Peoria, IL, satellite office
- Full-time (Non-Exempt)
In addition to supporting Gift of Hope's mission and vision and adhering to its values, the Donation Specialist serves a dual role of facilitating the organ and tissue donation process and serving as an expert resource withinhospitals on all aspects of organ and tissue donation. As a Donation Coordinator, the Donation Specialist creates an environment and provides accurate and relevant information that allows potential organ donor families to make informed decisions about donation. As a Hospital Development Coordinator, the Donation Specialist collaborates with hospital administration to create and implement policies and procedures that facilitate the donation process.
Organ and Tissue Donation Responsibilities:
- Cultivate relationships with hospital staff that facilitate cooperation and collaboration to determine the best time, place and manner to speak with families about donation.
- Foster hospital relationships within assigned region.
- Assume on-call responsibility as determined by Regional Manager.
- Conduct accurate, effective on-site evaluations of potential organ donors.
- Coordinate Patient Care Conferences with appropriate hospital staff during critical points in the referral and/or consent process.
- Assess medical status and determine organ donor potential according to Gift of Hope criteria in conjunction with Gift of Hope's Administrator On Call.
Hospital Development Responsibilities:
- Function as an expert resource within the hospital on all aspects of organ and tissue donation.
- In conjunction with hospital administration, assist Gift of Hope’s regional team in creating and implementing effective policies and procedures to improve organ and tissue donation.
- Develop and implement strategic plans (long-term goals) with the regional team to identify hospital strengths and weaknesses and optimize hospital performance.
- Proactively review data after collection, analyzing and updating information on performance outcomes with regional team members.
- Participate in quality assurance audit activities related to donation within the region.
- Report collective data to hospital administration and appropriate hospital department managers.
- Establish effective working relationships with hospital administrators, physicians, nurses and other allied healthcare professionals.
- Take necessary actions to promote the hospital's adoption of donation as part of its mission.
- Foster professional relationships with hospital departments to support Gift of Hope’s mission.
- Work with the regional team to develop, provide and evaluate educational programs on all aspects of the donation process for hospital staff.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in an allied healthcare field, business administration or related field; or equivalent work experience is required.
