Organ Recovery Coordinator (2 Positions)

Organ Recovery Coordinators at Gift of Hope manage the complex donation process, from the referral of potential donors to the recovery and placement of donated organs and tissue. They are responsible for coordinating the evaluation, informed consent, medical management, surgical recovery, allocation and distribution of organs for transplantation from deceased organ donors in accordance with applicable policies, procedures and protocols.
In addition to supporting Gift of Hope’s mission and vision and adhering to its values, this position is responsible for carrying out the following responsibilities:
- Communicating effectively and compassionately with families of potential donors to present the option of organ and tissue donation.
- Identifying and communicating essential clinical information (verbally and in writing) to associated departments, transplant center staff, Gift of Hope’s Medical Director/Managing physicians and administrators.
- Achieving and maintaining competency in clinical and technical skills required to facilitate organ and tissue donation and transplantation.
- Participating in departmental quality assurance initiatives.
- Working collaboratively with other departments and designated agencies to facilitate the recovery of tissue for transplantation or research.
- Assisting associated departments with providing professional and public education on organ and tissue donation.
- Rotating 24-hour on-call responsibilities with team members as assigned to respond to organ referrals throughout Gift of Hope's service area.
Qualifications:The ideal candidate for this position will be either a:
- Registered Nurse with at least two years of critical care experience and currently working in a critical care setting;
- Certified Paramedic or Allied Healthcare Clinician (e.g., Respiratory Therapist, Perfusionist) with at least three years of experience and currently working in a critical care setting; or
- Clinical/Transplant/Recipient Coordinator with one or more years of experience.
