Special Events

Donor families cheered on the Schaumburg Flyers baseball team

On August 15, donor families cheered on the Schaumburg Flyers baseball team as they played against the Kansas City T-Bones at Alexian Field. Hosted by Gift of Hope Organ & Tissue Donor Network, the game was an opportunity for donor families to come together, have fun and celebrate the day.

More than 40 donor families and nearly 15 Gift of Hope staff members attended. “The weather was perfect – we couldn’t have asked for a better day,” said Diane Schmitz, Donor Family Services Coordinator at Gift of Hope. “It was a light-hearted way for families to celebrate their loved ones and to enjoy each other’s company.”

Gift of Hope’s mascot, Morgan D’ Organ, threw out the game’s first pitch and entertained the crowd – Bearon, the Schaumburg Flyers’ team mascot, even made friends with Morgan D’ Organ – while Gift of Hope’s, Amy Johnson Bax sang the National Anthem.

“Families and staff were given wristbands and green Donate Life Illinois shirts, so the entire crowd knew who we were,” Schmitz said. “Schaumburg Flyers helped us support donation by welcoming us and announcing our attendance on the score board during the fifth inning.”

“We appreciate the participation and hospitality of the Schaumburg Flyers – it really helped make the day special,” said Jerry Anderson, Executive Director of Gift of Hope.
