Gift of Hope Organ & Tissue Donor Network proudly partners with the Kyle Zuleg Foundation, an organization that advocates for organ donation and enables us to provide donor families with the gift of a warm blanket. During what is often a difficult time for family members after their loss, the blanket offers comfort.

This year, the Kyle Zuleg Foundation’s annual fundraiser to provide us with these blankets is going virtual. A gift of $50 provides a monogrammed “Forever in our Hearts” blanket to a donor family.

Please consider contributing through Dec. 31 and supporting the Foundation’s fundraising that enables us to provide these blankets to families. For more information and to contribute, visit www.kyleshineson.org/the-foundation/. The Kyle Zuleg Foundation is an Illinois 501(c)(3) not for profit corporation.

Since 2010, when Kyle passed away and became an organ donor, the blanket program has grown from a few blankets in a garage to hundreds that are distributed to donor families through Gift of Hope’s affiliated hospitals in Illinois and northwest Indiana.

Kyle Shines On: Illuminating the Lives of Others

While 16-year-old Kyle was playing flashlight tag in the woods, a heavy tree branch fell on him. Kyle was rushed to the hospital where it was determined he had suffered traumatic, lethal spinal cord injury. He was transported to a Chicago trauma center where doctors confirmed the family’s worst fears that Kyle was brain dead.

His parents honored his wish for organ donation. Kyle donated seven organs that helped save the lives of five people.

His mother says: “Kyle was a brother, a son, and a true friend to all. Although Kyle is no longer physically here, his infectious smile, his handsome face, and the love he had for his family will be with us forever.”
