Our African-American Task Force helped to bring the donation message to Chicago-area television viewers in late October by taking part in the You Can Make a Difference Telethon, which aired on WJYS-TV, Channel 62. Micah Materre of WGN-TV, Art Norman of NBC5-TV and Sonya Blakey of V103 radio served as hosts for the event.

Much of the taped event was filmed at Gift of Hope. The telethon featured donation advocate and Chicago Bears cornerback Charles “Peanut” Tillman, who gave an update on his daughter, Tiana, who received a lifesaving heart transplant as a baby. It also featured an interview with Secretary of State Jesse White, several interviews with donor families and transplant recipients and “man-on-the-street” interviews that captured how everyday citizens feel about organ and tissue donation.
